A Message from our State Queen
Miss California High School Rodeo 2011-2012
Katelin A. New
Hello
and welcome to the California High School Rodeo Association Website! The
C.H.S.R.A. is a branch of the National High School Rodeo Association and was
founded in 1970. High School Rodeo offers amazing scholarship opportunities,
family bonding, the chance to travel throughout the state, the ability to create
unforgettable friendships and once in a lifetime memories. Home to nine
districts of High School Rodeo, California has approximately 600 members that
compete in rodeo events. While these high school students juggle school,
friends, and just being a teenager, they also have to manage hours of practice,
care, and a competitive drive in the rodeo world. The strong, determined, hard
working boys show their strengths in either bull riding, saddle bronc riding,
bareback riding, steer wresting, tie down roping, team roping and boys cutting.
The brave, passionate, independent girls show what it takes in the pole bending,
barrel racing, goat tying, breakaway roping, team roping and girls cutting. For
the 6th through 8th grade students, there is a chance to compete in rodeo along
side of the high school students in the Junior High Division.
Each district participates in 8 rodeos throughout the year to allow their
contestants to acquire enough points to earn prizes in their events at the end
of the rodeo season. Nearly 260 constants who place in the top 5 in their
district, in each event will travel to the beautiful Bishop, California for the
State Finals and prove they have what it takes to earn a State Champion Title.
If they place in the top 4 in their event(s) at State Finals they will move on
to compete at the National High School Finals Rodeo. Being the largest rodeo in
the world with almost 1,500 competitors, $350,000 in scholarship awards, and
$200,000 in prizes awarded, the National High School Finals Rodeo is such an
exciting and rewarding event to be apart of. If you are interested in becoming a
member of the N.H.S.R.A. go to http://www.nhsra.com and for C.H.S.R.A. info and

My name is Katelin New and I am a 17 year old Senior at Oakdale High School in
Oakdale, California. Along with being the 2011-2012 Miss California High School
Rodeo, I am also the 2010-2012 Miss CHSRA District 5 Queen. I didn’t always plan
to be a rodeo queen though. For 3 years I have been a member and competitor of
High School Rodeo in breakaway roping, goat tying, and recently team roping. I
have fallen in love with the rodeo way of life and I couldn’t imagine my years
as a high school student without those memories and experiences. I compete along
side some of my best friends and have met some of the most caring and passionate
people through high school rodeo. I strongly encourage anyone who is interested
to give High School Rodeo a try, because who knows… maybe you will give them a
run for their money.
